People with disabilities in the GDR

The Kiel-Munich collaborative project „People with Disabilities in the GDR“, funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), started in 2018 and conducts basic research on the history of people with disabilities in the GDR.

In order to close existing research gaps on the everyday and cultural history of people with disabilities in the GDR, the collaborative project sets three thematic priorities, which are reflected in the subprojects:

  • Families with Disabled Children
  • „Medial staging of disability“
  • Mobility technology and the built environment

Another elementary component of the project is the development and creation of a digital exhibition and Open Educational Resources (OER) in cooperation with the Kiel Drachensee Foundation and the Institute for Inclusive Education in Kiel.
